Quad bikes, tyre shopping and underage drinking keep police busy in Coalisland

Police appear to have been kept rather busy in Coalisland over the weekend, with a number of incidents reported in the town.

After confiscating four bottles of vodka and two of Buckfast from underage drinkers, Cookstown Neighbourhood Policing Team - who also operate in Coalisland - came across two quads being driven dangerously on the main road, as well as ‘tyre shoppers’ who fled.

In a number of posts, police said: “Cookstown neighbourhood police out and about in Coalisland this evening, came across two trolleys with tyres in them.

“The ‘shoppers’ fled on foot and were nowhere to be seen.

“Police retrieved the tyres and returned the trolleys to the supermarket. If you’re looking your £1s back out of the trolleys please don’t hesitate to contact us on 101.”

Acknowledging that Hallowe’en is just around the corner, they added: “Please remember burning tyres are not permitted on bonfires not to mention the damage it causes to our local environment #keepingpeoplesafe.”

In relation to the quad bikes incident, they said drivers were forced to swerve to avoid “two quads being driven dangerously and recklessly” as they did “wheelies on main roads” in the town.

“If anyone has any information or able to identify the drivers or owners please contact Cookstown Neighbourhood Police to help our investigation,” they said.
