Quad marking success to fight rural crime

Moyle neighbourhood officers, in partnership with the local Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), marked multiple quads last Wednesday as part of the fight against rural crime. inbm46-14s

Inspector John Allen said: “This quad marking event was the result of partnership working between PSNI and Moyle PCSP. Fourteen quads were marked with various anti-theft measures. The event was hosted by McKay Quads, Torr Road, Cushendun.

“Funding from the PCSP and PIRTEK, installation company, meant that farmers only paid 45% towards the cost of the anti-theft devices. They also received a 12.5 % discount on future insurance policies, with the NFU.

“Those who participated were also encouraged to sign up to text alert. This is a system to alert the community to crimes and suspicious activity in their area. To sign up and receive texts, please contact your local Neighbourhood officer on 101 or check the PSNI website.”

Inspector Allen concluded: “Agricultural crime is of concern to rural residents and quads are vital pieces of equipment for many. Therefore, police are committed to keeping people safe by detecting rural crime and working with communities to deter offenders.”

Chairperson of Moyle PCSP Cllr Margaret Anne McKillop added: “We at Moyle PCSP have been delighted to support this quad marking event and are encouraged by the number of people who came to avail of the crime prevention advice available and have their vehicles marked.

“We continue to be committed to working with our partners in the PSNI and other agencies to help reduce rural and agricultural crime across Moyle and would encourage local farmers and rural dwellers to remain vigilant and report any information which may support the prevention of crime and detection of those individuals that carry out offences within rural communities directly to PSNI on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111”
