‘Quarry steps’ path may be asserted asright of way

THE path from Spencer Road to Dunfield Terrace may be asserted a public right away with Derry city council’s Environmental Services Committee set to deliberate on the matter tomorrow.

The Environmental Services Committee previously recommended that the local authority endorse a general public rights of way and access to the countryside statement of intent and that an access officer look at possible areas where this could be implemented.

Now it has emerged that elected members and a number of Waterside residents have requested that Derry City Council provide a report on the Spencer Road/Dunfield Terrace path regarding its possible assertion as a public right of way.

A report before tomorrow’s Environmental Services Committee recommends that Council be authorised to prepare an Access Report on the path. Councillors will consider the matter tomorrow.
