Queen thanks borough for ‘kind’ letter

The letter, penned by the chief clerk to the Queen, is a response to the local authority’s message sent to the monarch to congratulate her on her diamond jubilee.

Addressed to “the Worshipful Mayor of Larne”, it read: “The Queen has asked me to thank you, the Aldermen, Councillors and residents of the Borough of Larne, County Antrim for your kind letter containing a message of loyal greetings to Her Majesty, sent on the occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary of The Queen’s Accession to the Throne.

“Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh much appreciate your thoughtfulness and send their best wishes for an enjoyable Diamond Jubilee year.”

Meanwhile, Alderman Roy Beggs received a similar message of thanks from the Palace in response to the letter he sent on behalf of the steering group which organised a jubilee lunch event in Glynn.

Ald Beggs’s letter spoke of local residents and visitors from Australia, Canada, the United States of America, the Phillipines and Spain who took part in the jubilee celebrations in Glynn on June 3.

The reply from Her Majesty’s chief clerk stated: “The Queen was interested to learn that you held a Big Jubilee Lunch in Glynn village on June 3 and sends her best wishes to all concerned.”
