Queen thanks little Ellie for 90th birthday wishes - after apologising for the delay

Ellie, a pupil a Kilross Primary School, took it upon herself to wish the UK’s longest reigning monarch a happy 90th birthday in summer.

“I was writing a letter for the Queen, and then last week she sended me a letter,” the thoughtful youngster said.

Asked why she decided to write the letter, little Ellie told the Mail: “I like to do art and crafts and I just felt like doing something like that.”

And in the reply she received, she told us the Queen “said thank you for the kind words”.

Just six when she put pen to paper with her birthday wishes, Ellie’s mum Laura said her daughter’s decided to write a letter to the Queen all on her own. All she did was write a return address on the envelope and take Ellie to the post office to send it.

And although the return correspondence took a few months to arrive, Laura told the Mail her daughter was ‘over the moon’ when it did.

“She did this of her own bat, she heard it on the news and she picked up that it was her birthday, and I said ‘Ellie I’ll post that for you’ so I stamped it with a return address,” said Laura.

She said her daughter had never expected to get a reply. But they did.

“We got the response last week, saying apologies for taking so long in getting back,” she added. “She was delighted, it was like she’s won the lottery. She’s telling everybody and brought it into school, they said they had never heard of anybody in the school to receive a response back ever.

“She was very excited.

“The only thing I did was put the return address on the back of the envelope, she did everything else, even the address on the letter. Popped it in the post box herself.”

“It was just saying ‘hope you have a lovely 90th birthday. Sending you lots of love’ - something to that effect. It didn’t have any great detail, it was just a nice thought.”
