Queen's 90th birthday at Ebrington Square

It is being hosted by Bonds Street Community Association and is one of thousands of beacons being lit across the UK in celebration of The Queen’s birthday milestone.

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will light the principal Beacon on the same evening at Windsor Castle. This will be followed by the lighting of a number of Beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, including one at the Copper Horse, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas Territories and a Commonwealth Country to celebrate this landmark birthday.

Many different organisations are taking part from all areas of the local community, including the Army Cadet Force, who are taking special gas fuelled Beacons to the top of the Four Highest Peaks in the UK: Ben Nevis, Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Slieve Donard. These beacons will be lit at 7.15pm and all other beacons, including that at Ebrington, will be lit at 8.30pm.

The one at St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen, is the most westerly beacon in the UK.

Thanking the people of the UK, Prince Charles said he was delighted so many were lighting beacons in celebration of his mother’s birthday.

“It is a wonderful gesture which I know has deeply touch Her Majesty,” he said.

“Since time immemorial, the light of beacons has relayed important messages across the land. This message we proclaim with the greatest pride and affection: Your Majesty, we all wish you a very Happy Birthday,” he said.
