Queen's 90th birthday to be marked by 21 gun salute at Hillsborough Castle

The Queen will be 90 years old on Thursday April 21 and the event will be marked in Northern Ireland with a special 21 Gun Salute at her official residence Hillsborough Castle.

And in a special gesture, the guns are to be fired by members of Queen’s University Officer Training Corps – under the watchful eye, of course, of Ulster’s Gunners – 206 (Ulster) Battery Royal Artillery.

Whilst Her Majesty’s Official Birthday is not until June her actual birthday will be marked not only by a 21 Gun Salute in Northern Ireland but also by Gun Salutes in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

A spokesman for Queen’s University Officer Training Corps said: “It is an honour and a privilege for our Officer Cadets to fire the Royal Salute at Hillsborough Castle on such a momentous and memorable occasion as Her Majesty’s actual 90th birthday.”
