Queen's birthday events planned

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council had earlier this year put forward plans for community and voluntary groups to receive funding to hold events to mark the monarch’s birthday.

At an event held in Mossley Mill last week, the 25 community and voluntary groups received the fabulous news that their application for funding to help them celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday had been approved.

The event, which was attended by Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg and Mrs Joan Christie OBE, the Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, with Mrs Christie congratulating all the groups on successfully securing financial assistance.

She also shared stories with the groups of Her Majesty The Queen’s life over the past 90 years.

The Mayor commented: “I really appreciate the efforts being made by local community and voluntary groups across the Borough in developing and delivering public events to celebrate this important occasion.

“Thanks must also go to the volunteers who will be involved in the management and delivery of the events.”

The group representatives were also presented with event packs that included bunting, flags and decorative items to help with their celebrations.

A wide range of events are planned including street parties, family fun days and garden parties.
