THE firm responsible for the multi-million pound transatlantic Project Kelvin telecommunications link has successfully applied to Derry City Council for permission to lay cable ducting under lands at Queen’s Quay.

Hibernia Atlantic Ltd. were originally granted licence to lay ducting under the Council-owned lands for a period of twenty years in 2000 when it was trading as Bytel Networks Ltd.

A monthly meeting of Derry City Council last week heard how Council had granted the licence to Bytel Networks Limited on October 12, 2000.

The Council gave consent to assign the benefit of the licence to Hibernia Atlantic (NI) Limited. The granting of consent was envisaged in the original licence agreement.
