Queen's Quay sewer work to commence

TRAFFIC will be disrupted for six weeks this summer as the laying of sewers gets under way in Londonderry city centre.

As part of the ongoing improvements to the sewerage network, NI Water and its contractors will be carrying out work in the area of Harbour Square roundabout and Queen's Quay.

The work will get underway on June 28 for a period of approximately six weeks. The first phase of this work will involve pipelaying around Harbour Square roundabout and will require the implementation of a traffic management system.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions, and will be directed around the city side of the roundabout whilst work is ongoing on the riverside. All routes will be signposted. This phase will take approximately two weeks commencing on 28th June 2010.

The second phase of the work entails the continuation of pipelaying along Queen's Quay. During the second phase, traffic will be restricted to one way flow, for city bound traffic only.

All north/country bound traffic will be diverted along the Strand Road, with the route signposted along its entirety. To minimise disruption, the second phase of the work will be carried out at night, with Queen's Quay being fully reopened to traffic each morning. This work will commence w/c 12 July for approximately 4 weeks.

Queens Quay will be closed to the public from Monday - Wednesday: 7.30pm - 6.30am, Thursday 9:00pm - 6:30am, Friday 9.00pm - 12 noon, Saturday 6:30pm - 12 noon and Sunday evening/Monday morning: 6.30pm - 6.30am.
