Question mark over UUP selection

THE recent UUP selection meeting in Upper Bann appears to have widened the rift in the party.

The 'MAIL' is aware of a threat of legal action over the voting rights of UUP members who put Colin McCusker in pole position after the September 8 meeting.

Question marks had been raised as to whether certain unionists who voted for Colin McCusker had been fully paid up members at the time of the vote.

A UUP source told the 'MAIL' the threat of legal action was unlikely and it was a case of "clutching at straws".

Colin McCusker, son of former MP Harold, topped the poll while Jo-Anne Dobson finished second. McCusker and Dobson, two of the Ulster Unionists' new faces pushed stalwart UUP MLA Sam Gardiner into third place and fellow MLA George Savage into fifth. Westminster candidate Harry Hamilton came in fourth.

It's understood the party is planning to run three candidates in the constituency. Final selection of the three candidates has yet to be made.
