On the first day of the Battle of the Somme, he went into no-man’s-land under intense machine-gun and shell fire to find his wounded commanding officer, Lieutenant Sir Harry Macnaghten.
He managed to save seven men but, sadly, he was unable to find Sir Harry. For his bravery he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Money is being collected to erect a bronze statue of Quigg in Bushmills.
