Quiz in Kieran's memory raises £1,300 for cancer charity

A charity quiz in memory of a young Ballymena rugby player who died following a brave battle with cancer has raised more than £1,000.

Friends and family of Kieran Bowes, who passed away last week, gathered at Ballymena Rugby Club on Saturday night.

A spokesperson for the event said: “We lifted a total of £1300 tonight from his family, friends and team mates which is a phenomenal amount.”

The proceeds of the quiz will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and Ward C7 at Antrim Area Hospital.

Organisers of the quiz have thanked raffle sponsors including Style N Sport, Montgomery’s, Co-op, Ulster Rugby, Moore Electrics and Ballymena Rugby Club as well as those involved in catering and preparing the clubrooms.

Posting on Facebook, Kieran’s older brother Jarrad said: “It was a really good night and it’ll help go to someone really in need. Thanks to everyone from the Bowes family.”
