Sean Fleming (19), an apprentice joiner, of Portna Road, Rasharkin, was detected speeding by police on mobile patrol in the early hours of September 26 last.

A prosecuting lawyer said police noted that they were travelling at 70mph as they followed the defendant’s vehicle which was “pulling away from them.”

A defence solicitor said the incident happened at 2.30am and defendant was in a rush to get home.

He pleaded with the court not to impose a disqualification as Fleming required his licence to get to college and in relation to his trade.

Warning him to slow down, District Judge Alan White said this was the kind of driving which often resulted in accidents.
