Racially motivated criminal damage incidents in Coleraine

Police are investigating several incidents of racially motivated criminal damage in Coleraine at the end of August.

Police believe that one man was responsible for spraying graffiti onto several buildings late at night or into the early hours of Friday 22 August and then again on Thursday 28 August.

Constable Colyn Wilson elaborated: “The graffiti is thought to reference the National Front and so we are treating the three incidents as racially motivated hate crimes.

“The man thought to be responsible for the damage is described as 30-40 years of age, 5’10 in height and was wearing blue jeans, white trainers, blue shirt and a dark grey/blue ‘hoodie’ type top.

“Officers are examining CCTV footage, but would also like to speak to anyone with any information about the criminal damage.

Con Wilson concluded: “If you can help the investigation please contact police on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
