Radio Cracker fundraising gets underway with car boot sale

Radio Cracker’s fundraising campaign is getting underway next month ahead of the official launch event in November.

Before the award-winning community radio station begins broadcasting on November 27, there will be a car boot sale and cake sale at Broughshane Community Centre from 6.45pm on September 18.

For the launch event on November 21, the much-acclaimed Belfast Community Gospel Choir will be giving a concert in Wellington Presbyterian Church.

To date, approximately £1.5 million has been donated for the relief of poverty and sickness throughout the world thanks to Radio Cracker’s fundraising endeavours.

Each year, Radio Cracker receives applications for funding from various charities and before broadcasting begins, the Trustees decide which applications to approve and listeners are then invited to contribute.

This year, the closing date for the receipt of applications is September 12.

Gordon Dawson, Radio Cracker Chairman, said: “The applications we receive are all very deserving and sometimes quite complex.

“Accordingly, further enquiries are often necessary, as is a lot of prayer, consideration and debate, before final decisions are made, and all this takes time.”

Mr Dawson added that the Trustees are very conscious of the trust given to them by the supporters of Radio Cracker and gives his assurance that everything will be done to make sure there is no betrayal of that trust.
