Lewis McAdam, 16, has already worked at five online community radio stations including Carrickfergus FM, Chat and Spin, Rubix Radio and Talk Radio UK. The budding radio presenter now plans to bring his experience to a new project, which he has christened “Radio Larne.”

Lewis, who began broadcasting from his bedroom at the tender age of 14, became interested in radio after hearing a broadcast by Larne station Chaine FM.

After Chaine FM’s owner, Larne Community Media, abandoned plans to launch a full-time community radio station for the Larne area, Lewis decided to create his own station to fill the void.

“I have applied for funding to O2’s Think Big scheme and I am also thinking about holding fundraising events,” said the teenager.

“I am hoping to do a breakfast show and a magazine show where someone will come in or phone in and talk about the issues in Larne. Then we could go into drive time shows which would involve the community and what is happening in Larne. I’m hoping to broadcast every day with presenters and online radio cloud software could mean the station runs right through.”
