Radio UIster star climbs aboard for the SPAR Raft Race

PORTRUSH's own BBC Radio Ulster broadcaster Alan Simpson has 'climbed aboard' once again for the SPAR Portrush Raft Race 2010 in aid of the RNLI, Alan's nominated charity.

Alan was only too pleased to sign up to be a major part of the proceedings which take place at the Harbour in Portrush on Saturday and Suunday, May 29-30.

Alan has also persuaded some of his Radio Ulster friends to take part!

All proceeds from the Raft Race go to Portrush Lifeboat Station and is an important part of the fundraising calendar.

Judy Barr Lifeboat Press Officer for Portrush Station said: "The Spar Portrush Raft Race is a major fundraiser for the station and we are indebted to the Causeway SPAR Retail Group and Alan Simpson for being part of this successful event.

"Alan has had long associations with the Raft Race and we are delighted to have him back as a major part of the weekend. The funds help us to train our volunteer crew members to save lives at sea and to maintain our two lifeboats."

The SPAR Retail Group Raft Race starts on Saturday, May 29 with the Junior Raft Race, the main Raft Race, live bands, entertainment and great craic and continues on Sunday, May 30 with a Church Service, the ever popular Waiters' Race and Karaoke on the quay.
