Radiographers scoop awards

Two radiographers working for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust have won another major UK award in the Advancing Healthcare awards for allied health professional and healthcare scientists.

The Northern Ireland Maximising resources for success award, sponsored by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, and open to AHPs from throughout UK, went to Janet Eagle and Helena Kinkaid for their redesign of the diagnoses and treatment of fertility problems in women.

Their radiographer-led service has reduced waiting lists for hysterosalpingograms - a fluoroscopic examination of the uterus and the Fallopian tubes used to investigate infertility - from 14 to zero weeks.

Janet and Helena were part of the Trust’s Radiography Department that collected the prestigious UK wide Radiography Team of the Year Award in 2015, and this year’s award winning project was also recognised at the Advancing Healthcare NI awards – where they won the Macmillan Award for rethinking patient pathway and were the overall award winners at the event.

Congratulating the team, Head of Diagnostics for the Trust, Jeanette Robinson, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Janet, Helena and Audrey’s hard work, commitment to service improvement and dedication to their patients has been recognised in this way.

“This team have truly demonstrated how by transforming services to be much more efficient can transform the lives of our patients.”
