Rail crossing abuse will not be tolerated

TRANSLINK NI Railways are reminding local passengers that railway crossing abuse will not be tolerated.

Last year over 40 people were prosecuted for misusing railway crossings and almost 9000 in fines was issued to offenders in the Coleraine and North Antrim area.

General Manager for Rail Services Mal McGreevy, said: ‘Safety and security of our passengers and employees is of top priority. We take all antisocial behaviour very seriously and want the public to use crossings safely, but we will prosecute persistent abuse.

“Railway crossing misuse puts all users and the wider public at risk. Crossing abuse has been an area we have focused on and we have installed high, quality CCTV at many railway crossings to combat this issue.

“Our advice to the public is simple; warning systems are there for your protection; follow the instructions at level crossings and don’t take risks.”
