Rail line to close for weekend

Translink is advising passengers of a line closure between Portadown and Lisburn on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January .

A specially timetabled bus substitution will operate on these dates between Portadown and Lisburn, serving Lurgan and Moira. Enterprise services will also be impacted by these works with a bus substitution service operating between Belfast and Newry on these dates.

Translink’s Project Manager said, “There will be no access to the Park and Ride facility at Moira Station on January 30 and 31. Alternative arrangements have been made for passengers and the bus substitutions in operation during January 30 and 31 will pick up and drop off passengers at the existing bus stop on the Lisburn Road between Moira and Junction 9 of the M1 Motorway. Translink will be displaying this information at Moira Station, on our website and through social media. This closure is required to carry out works at Moira Station including the dig-out of the track between the platforms and the renewal of the Moira level crossing. The works form part of an overall essential track ballast rehabilitation project between Knockmore and Lurgan.

“There will also be an extended road closure at the Station Road in Moira from 11pm on Wednesday January 27 through to 6am on Thursday February 4 as part of these works. During the extended road closure the Level Crossing at Moira Station will be closed to vehicles however the Station footbridge will continue to be open for use at all times except during January 30 and 31, when the line closure is in operation.

Translink advise that during this period, passengers wishing to travel by train should allow extra time to access parking, while motorists will need to take additional time to follow the appropriate diversionary routes.

“We would ask passengers with disabilities who use Moira station, to call our Contact Centre for advice on travelling during the extended road closure while the works are ongoing.”

Local residents have been advised of the works and Translink would like to thank passengers for their patience.
