Raining rockets at Hunterhouse

PUPILS at Hunterhouse recently carried out a rocket design project.

This course provided the girls with an exciting and hands on way to explore forces and motion by providing them with the opportunity to create their own rocket made out of paper and fired by compressed air.

The girls explored concepts of projectile motion and aerodynamics, which they needed to consider carefully in designing their final rockets.

Despite the wet and windy conditions at the launch pad, it was amazing to see just how far a paper rocket could be fired. The best result of the day being just over 100 metres.

Congratulations to Lucy Lewis, Olivia Gilmer and Yasmine Loughran on winning t-shirts for their efforts in designing the best rockets of the day

The girls became rocket scientists the help of the STEM module - a project launched in 2009 jointly funded by the Department of Education and The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment to provide a mobile laboratory and workshop equipped with everything required to deliver a state of the art learning experience to schools across the province.
