Ramp revamp plan

THE front access ramp to the Seven Towers Leisure Centre looks set to be refurbished by Council at a cost of £35,000.

The business case for the work was approved last Tuesday night by the local authority’s Community Planning and Wellbeing Committee and will go before the April monthly meeting of Council for ratification.

Presenting details of the proposed refurbishment to committee members, Mrs Bernie McCandlish, assistant director of Development, Leisure & Cultural Services said that the ramp was built in 1994 and that a report on a preliminary condition survey had identified some deterioration to its upper side as well as extensive areas of rusting on all steelwork on the underside, including strapping bolts.

She presented councillors with three options of which they agreed on the need to paint the steelwork and waterproof the concrete slab which would prolong the life of the ramp.

This, members were told, would cost £35,000 which could be included in the Council’s Minor Works Budget.
