Ranger McCormick’s parents guest of honour at Royal Irish Regiment evening

THE parents of a young Coleraine soldier killed in Afghanistan on Remembrance Sunday will be the guest of honour at a special evening of music in aid of the Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund in Londonderry next month.

Margaret and Lesley McCormick will attend the event at the Waterside Theatre, organised by the Orange Order, on Saturday, June 15.

Their son, Ranger Aaron McCormick had been helping to clear an area of improvised explosive devices during a security patrol in Nad’Ali when he was killed on November 14, 2010.

Mr and Mrs McCormick, who are from Macosquin, will be joined at the occasion by The Grand Master of Ireland, Most Wor Bro Edward Stevenson and The City Grand Master of Londonderry, the Rt Wor Bro James Heatherington.

The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund provides after care support to both wounded soldiers and veterans and bereaved families.

The Fund also helps to re-integrate soldiers into society and help them find jobs.

The compere for the evening at Waterside Theatre will be Gary Wilson with entertainment by The Bugles, the Pipes and Drums of 2nd Batalion of the Royal Irish Regiment, Newtownstewart Orange District Male Choir, Barron Accordion Band Experience and soloist, Mrs Margaret Boyd.

The evening will also include a Drill Marching Display by The 1st Batallion (NI) Army Cadet Force.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8pm.
