Rare Disease Partnership meeting at Foyle Hospice

The Northern Ireland Rare Disease Partnership (NIRDP) is holding its Summer Meeting on Friday 26 June 2015, from 9.30am to 2.30pm, in the Day Room at Foyle Hospice.

The Meeting will take the form of a free Seminar, with the theme “Living life with rare disease: Taking the Scare out of palliative care”. The aim is to give all those (patients, carers, health and social care professionals) living or working with rare diseases an opportunity to hear and learn about how a palliative care approach can support and improve quality of life; and to contribute to a discussion on how palliative care should be developed, to meet the needs of those living with rare diseases.

The NIRDP have brought together a terrific line up of speakers, including Sandra Campbell, from the NIRDP, whose father died of a rare disease; Dr Aine Abbott, Dr Damien McMullan (Consultant in Adult Palliative Care, Western Trust), Dr Heather McCluggage (Associate Specialist in Children’s Palliative Care, Western Trust), Katie Rigg, (Specialist Nurse with the Multiple Systems Atrophy Association, covering Ireland and the North of England) Donall Henderson, Chief Executive of the Foyle Hospice, and Paddie Blaney, Director of the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care.

All those interested- families, carers, health and social care professionals; patient advocates or workers with voluntary organisations- are very welcome to attend.
