Rasharkin Apprentice Boys respond to claims by Daithi McKay

SIR - The Apprentice Boys of Derry, Campsie Club, Rasharkin Branch would like to commend all who took part in their relief of Derry celebrations on Saturday, August 14.

Special mention must go to our guest band POTM, who have led us for the last six years and have behaved impeccably on all occasions despite increasing provocation.

In regard to our recent parade in Rasharkin on the evening of the 14th, the above club have issues relating to a protest who breached the Parade Commission determination.

We believe that there were breaches regarding the location, behaviour and actions by the protestors after the parade had passed the designated protest area. The Club will leave these matters to the PSNI to investigate.

The allegations which were made from Sinn Fein are becoming more predictable but less significant as numerous claims in the past have been unfounded and are refuted. The claims that Sinn Fein are looking to solve the issue of parading seem to be futile in Rasharkin as they seem to be heightening tension each year.

The Apprentice Boys would like to thank everyone for their exemplary behaviour and also a big thanks to followers who stayed, as asked, at the Orange Hall.

We will continue to celebrate our culture in a peaceful and dignified manner.

Yours etc.,

The Apprentice Boys of Derry,

Campsie Club,

Rasharkin Branch
