Rasharkin man accused of having coffee table as weapon

A MAN has appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine last Friday, charged with having a coffee table as a weapon.

Victor McAlonan (48), of Glebe Road, Rasharkin, is accused of being armed with a dangerous or offensive weapon with intent to commit an arrestable offence, on December 27.

He is further charged of assaulting a woman on the same date.

Solicitor David McIlrath said the defendant and alleged injured party are brother and sister.

When asked by District Judge Des Perry about the alleged use of the coffee table, a PSNI officer said it had been “whatever came to hand”.

“I doubt it was in his back pocket,” retorted the judge.

McAlonan’s case was adjourned until February 25, at Ballymena Magistrates Court.
