Rathcoole attack being treated as a hate crime

Police investigating an attack on a house in the Rathcoole estate on Friday morning (May 16) are treating the incident as a racist hate crime.

At around 2.10am police received a report that a window had been smashed at a property in Linford Green.

A woman and her three sons were in the house at the time of the attack, but there were no injuries.

It’s understood that this was the second time the family has been targeted in recent months.

UUP Cllr John Scott condemned the incident, saying: “It’s wrong that anyone should be subjected to such a cowardly attack by mindless thugs. People have the right to live in peace without fear of attack or persecution.”

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 101, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
