The Housing Executive has appointed Apex Housing Association to progress the scheme of eight properties. It is anticipated that a contractor will be appointed before the end of the financial year, with work expected to commence in April 2016.

The move has been welcomed by local DUP representatives.

Paula Bradley MLA said: “DUP representatives have long been to the fore in campaigning for much needed new-build social housing in Rathcoole. This site was first brought to the attention of the Housing Executive by the DUP and our lobbying is now delivering results for local people in Rathcoole. This new scheme at Loughmoney Park, in addition to others currently in the pipeline, will go some way to addressing need in the local area. We will continue to press for further much needed social housing development.”

Nigel Dodds MP added: “I welcome the transformation of this disused brownfield site to provide much needed homes for Rathcoole. Across Rathcoole unprecedented progress is being made on delivering social housing. Construction is already underway at Deerfin Park, plans have been approved for Inniscarn Drive and a planning application has been submitted for East Way. As well as providing family homes these developments will help regenerate Rathcoole for the benefit of all residents.”
