Rathcoole tenants to benefit from £413k kitchen scheme

THE Northern Ireland Housing Executive is continuing its investment in Rathcoole with the announcement that more than 80 tenants are to benefit from a kitchen replacement scheme.

The Executive has awarded a contract worth around £415,000 which will see new kitchens installed at 86 homes in the Carmeen Drive, Carnreagh Bend, Derrycoole Way and Derryhill areas of the estate.

Welcoming the latest investment in the area, NIHE District Manager Sharon Crooks said: “For so many families the kitchen is the heart of the home and so it is great that tenants in these Rathcoole properties are getting new kitchens, designed to meet the needs of modern living.

“In planning the work, liaison with the tenants is a priority, giving them opportunity to select finishes for their kitchen units, work surfaces and tiles from a range of options to suit their personal taste. In the course of the work we are upgrading electrical and plumbing services to cater for modern kitchen appliances and also installing or upgrading smoke detectors as necessary.

“This £415,000 Housing Executive investment is a clear signal in practical terms of our ongoing commitment to our tenants in Rathcoole and to the Newtownabbey borough.”

Macedon DUP councillor, alderman Billy DeCourcy added: “I’m delighted to see this - it’s very much a welcome investment in the area.

“Any improvement in the housing stock in Rathcoole is to be welcomed, especially coming on top of the money that has already been invested in replacing windows at a lot of the Housing Executive’s properties.”
