Rathlin food outlet gets planning permission

SINN Fein councillor Cathal Newcombe has thanked planners for approving a change of use from an existing residential basement to a fast food outlet around 185 metres south west of McCuaig's Bar on Rathlin Island.

The applicant is Ms E. McFaul.

Planning officer Julie McMath told a meeting of Moyle Council there were three letters of objection which related to commercial use in a residential area and proximity to a “dangerous corner”.

There was also a fear the development would de-value property and that the food outlet would be detrimental to the shoreline which is an Area of Special Scientific Interest.

Ms McMath said there were also two letters of support saying the development would be welcome and also create employment.

Ms McMath said the plans will replace an existing mobile chip van.
