Rathlin needs better broadband- McShane

BALLYCASTLE Sinn Féin Councillor, Cara McShane, has met with representatives from Rathlin Development and Community Association and Onwave Broadband to discuss improved broadband services on the island.

Cllr Cara McShane said: “Recently I had the opportunity to meet with Rathlin Island Community representatives and Onwave Broadband to discuss the possibility of improving internet connections to the island.

“The current broadband services on Rathlin are not adequate and particularly when visitors increase, the usage of the broadband to the island is spread out making connections very slow.

“Sinn Féin has been campaigning throughout the island of Ireland to improve broadband provision, particularly in rural areas.

“I welcome the steps taken by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment to deliver high-speed satellite broadband services, which will ultimately benefit rural-users. This latest contract awarded to Onwave Limited by DETI, will hopefully see a much improved provision of broadband for those who take up the service.”
