Rathlin policy welcomed

NORTH Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has welcomed the publication of a finalised version of a policy on Rathlin Island.

DRD Minister Conor Murphy brought the final policy to the Executive for approval and now intends to draw up a Draft Action Plan for Rathlin.

Mr McKay said: “The Rathlin Island policy represents a commitment from the Executive to the Island and its inhabitants.

“Strategic Objectives include developing Islanders’ employability; developing Rathlin as a carbon neutral island generating electricity from renewable sources; to have a good mains water supply and to actively maintain the island school.

“The Minister has committed to develop an Action Plan over the next six months that will set out in detail how this policy will be delivered over a two year term. This will be developed in conjunction with Island representatives.

“I would like to commend Conor Murphy for the work that he has done in championing the needs and entitlements of Rathlin residents and I look forward to seeing this 21t Century policy for the island being implemented.”
