Re-posted article raises parents’ abduction fears

A story was covered by the Lurgan Mail in March regarding two schoolgirls who were targeted by strangers in Trasna Way and close to King’s Park school.

The story has re-emerged on the Internet via another source and was being shared by hundreds of people on Facebook.

The ‘MAIL’ clarified with police that no fresh incidents had been reported at Trasna Way and in the King’s Park area.

Police gave the ‘MAIL’ an update on both incidents.

At Trasna Way a man in his mid-twenties had tried to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl. He remains at large.

A leaflet drop and press appeal were undertaken at the time and items have been sent for forensic examination.

The investigation is ongoing according to the PSNI.

Less than 24 hours after the Trasna Way incident, close to King’s Park Primary School, a nine-year-old schoolgirl had been the target of an attempted abduction.

A leaflet drop and media appeal were also undertaken at the time on the Avenue Road. A leaflet drop was conducted and police performed high visibility patrols around the school. There have been no further developments with this incident.

Just last week a grandfather intervened after a man, who was part of a gang of four, was acting suspiciously around his three-year-old grandson.
