Reading is the new Olympic sport

LOCAL libraries are planning a reading challenge with a difference as part of London 2012 Open Weekend.

The Olympic promotion this Friday-Sunday (July 23-25) features a series of sporting, arts and cultural challenges across the UK.

Local libraries will have a selection of mystery reads in a luck dip, encouraging people to take a leap into the unknown by choosing a book that they absolutely know nothing about.

Muriel Todd, business manager with Libraries NI, asked: “How many of us judge a book by its cover? Probably too many and this means we sometimes miss out on some really good reads.

“By taking part in the Libraries NI Lucky Dip Reading Challenge participants will read something that they normally wouldn’t choose. They will then have the opportunity to tell us their thoughts on the book by filling out a comment card when they return the book.”
