Reading Rooms at the Void Gallery

The Reading Rooms project will be hosted along side Canadian Artist Kelly Richardson’s ‘Haunted’ exhibition, to make contemporary art accessible to visitors of all ages and communities.

Andrea Doran from the Verbal Arts Centre explained: “The Reading Rooms uses a reading aloud and shared reading setting to encourage participants to share personal experiences from their past sparking memories and stimulating new thoughts.”

She added: “It introduced groups of people to visual arts in a gallery setting; which is an arts experience they may not normally chose to engage with. Which so far has been delivered out in schools, with young people, with older people, with those with dementia etc since 2013.”

The stories this week will relate to science and space in conjunction with Kelly Richardson’s work, which includes a giant panoramic vision of the planet Mars set 200 years in the future.

Almost 800 visitors as well as community groups and schools have experienced Kelly Richardson’s exhibition since it opened, using NASA’s own data, to produce another world with strange lights and sounds.

Sally Murphy from the Void Gallery said: “A strategic priority for Void this year is to place participation, engagement and learning at the heart of the gallery. We have been delighted to work with a range of partners across the city including Verbal Arts Centre, FabLab, CultureTECH, and the Library Service NI.”
