Reception forPresbyterianSociety

This year the Presbyterian Children's Society, formerly the Presbyterian Orphan Society is celebrating 150 years of its ministry and among events to mark the anniversary are a series of receptions around Ireland to thank local representatives for their work and support.

A reception for the Coleraine area was held in the Lodge Hotel and was attended by about 60 local representatives of the Society and the Society President Rev Purvis Campbell.

Founded in 1866 the Society was established to provide practical help for children and their families facing hardship and over 150 years it has been able to give 43,000 children from 17,500 families the opportunity to reach their full potential when circumstances, often beyond their control, appeared to have made that impossible.

“The ministry of the Presbyterian Children’s Society would be impossible without the financial generosity of local Presbyterians and our congregational representatives,” says Mr Campbell. “To show our appreciation and say thank you to them on behalf of the Society and the many children and families their donations help we have planned these events that will be taking place around Ireland during the next month.”

On display at the local reception was an exhibition ‘Generations of Generosity’ which traces the 150-year history of the Society.
