Reception marks Brian’s 25 years of voluntary service

LISBURN’S Mayor hosted a very special reception recently in honour of Brian McDowell, who has worked for the City Council in a voluntary capacity for the past 25 years.

The Chief Executive, Directors of the Council and Chairman of the Corporate Services Committee, Cllr Stephen Martin and Vice-Chair, Cllr Roy Young joined Brian’s family and colleagues at the reception.

Brian first worked in the former Lisburn Leisure Centre in 1986 and went to Lagan Valley Island in 2001. He works voluntarily in the Council’s reception areas and liaises with customers and visitors to the Council.

Brian assisted the Council as one of its disability advisors during the development of Lagan Valley Island, and he spoke warmly of his time at the City Council where he has made many close friends and enjoyed many happy times.

Brian said: “I was really touched to attend the Mayoral reception. I have many good friends at Lisburn City Council and it is very gratifying to be appreciated for what I do. I have greatly enjoyed my time at the Council and have seen a lot of change and growth in the past 25 years in Lisburn as one would expect.”

The Mayor, Cllr Brian Heading, said: “We all admire Brian’s dedication and determination and he is an example to us all. Brian is very highly thought of and I was delighted to host the reception in his honour.”
