MOORE’S of Coleraine and the White House in Portrush have reported record numbers at the start of its clearance sales which were held last week

The event, which marked the start of the company’s biggest ever clearance event in the stores 122 and 90 year history, had people queuing outside its doors for hours in advance of the events.

Neville Moore, Managing Director of Ulster Stores said he had never seen anything like it: “Each year we run a clearance event but this year our pricing structure across our furniture, fashion and home ranges was even keener and the response has been phenomenal.

“Reports surrounding the health of the high street have been a regular feature of news headlines in recent months but our experience has been different. We are hopeful that sales will continue to be strong throughout the week as customers realise some of the low deals that are on offer and visitors flock to the North Coast ahead of the World Police and Fire Games competitions which start this week.”

A CBI survey has showed that department stores have enjoyed the strongest trading in 30 years this summer.
