Recovered dog may have been used for badger baiting

It’s thought the animal may have been used for badger baiting given its injuries.

The council’s dog warden recently became aware of this Jack Russell and got in contact with police because the dog had injuries consistent with those caused by badger baiting. The injuries are not recent and may have been caused some time ago.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Badger baiting is a horrific and illegal activity that involves dogs been sent into badger sets where the badger and dog are forced to fight to protect themselves.

“The injuries caused to both animals are sickening and abhorrent. Our little stray has fortunately been re-homed.

“We want to prevent animals being injured in this way so if you have any information that could help us put a stop to this please contact us on the non emergency number 101.”
