Recycling centre to close for improvements

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is undertaking a £400,000 refurbishment project at its Carryduff Household Recycling Centre on the Comber Road.

This facility will be closed for the duration of these works that will last three to four months starting on Monday 28th September.

These essential infrastructure works will improve the site drainage, quality of surface areas and overall general site operation.

Councillor Brian Hanvey, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, speaking about the works, said: “This significant investment by the Council will assist it in delivering more effective recycling and general waste services to its residents. I would like to apologise to those residents that utilise this service for any inconvenience that may be caused.

“The Council’s other two household recycling centres at The Cutts, Derriaghy and Drumlough, Dromara Road, Hillsborough will be open as normal for the duration of the above refurbishment works. For those residents in Carryduff and surrounding areas there are several bring banks at which you can recycle glass and mixed cans.

“The only bring bank that accepts paper is located at the Carryduff Shopping Centre Car Park. Textiles can be recycled at Dungoyne Park, Ballybeen; Auld House Car Park, Church Road, Moneyreagh; Carryduff Shopping Centre Car Park; and Tesco on Newtownbreda Road.

“On Saturdays commencing the 3rd October from 10.00am to 1.30pm there will be a refuse collection vehicle at Bradford Court for residents wishing to use this as a bring site for general household waste. The Council will also be placing temporary banks at Dundonald International Ice Bowl from the week commencing 5th October that will enable residents to recycle glass, mixed cans and textiles. I would like to take this opportunity to thank residents in advance for their patience,” concluded Councillor Hanvey.
