Recycling scheme for businesses

BUSINESSES throughout the area that use Craigavon Borough Council's waste management service to dispose of their waste have all be offered a fortnightly recycling collection service – which has been very positively welcomed.

A total of 475 commercial businesses in the borough were consulted to gauge interest in the proposed green bin service and already 81 businesses have expressed an interest in the scheme.

These businesses currently pay for a blue bin collection on a weekly basis – this service will continue, with the fortnightly green bin collection as an additional service which will be offered at a reduced cost, providing definite savings for businesses and ultimately Council.

“I am thrilled that businesses have responded so positively to the option of having a recycling collection service,” said Councillor Johnny McGibbon, Chair of the Environmental Services Committee.

“Businesses have the potential to generate a large volume of waste and it is great that these businesses will be diverting some of this waste away from landfill by signing up to the green bin collection service. This is currently a pilot scheme which we hope will be a success.”
