Red Bay RNLI plans approved

The committee met on Tuesday to consider the application for Red Bay pier on the Coast Road in Cushendall.

The application was for a three-year temporary provision of facilities associated with RNLI lifeboat service - two timber clad, pre-fabricated storage containers, steel stair from pier to beach and timber fenders fixed to the harbour wall to provide temporary berth.

A Planning respresentative told the meeting: “This proposal is considered acceptable in this location having regard to the Area Plan and other material considerations. The proposed works are necessary and required to meet the specific needs of the RNLI and do not have an adverse negative impact on the built and natural environment. The visual impact has been reduced with the use of timber cladding and a temporary permission has been recommended to allow the applicant to consider a permanent solution. Approval is recommended.”

Cllr Joan Baird proposed accepting the recommendation to grant permission saying that the RNLI does a “wonderful job for all of us around the coast”.

This was seconded by Cllr Padraig McShane and agreed when put to the vote.

BELLISK DRIVE

The Planning Committee also granted permission for another application for Cushendall - this time for 33 Bellisk Drive.

The application from M&M Quinn was for front, side and rear extension to dwelling and new shed.

A Planning representative said: “The proposed development is considered acceptable in this location having regard to the area plan and other material

considerations. The development is considered appropriate in terms of its scale, layout and appearance.” Approval was granted.
