Refurbished Glynn PS could be ready by August

THE Board of Governors at Glynn Primary believes the school will remain “at the heart of the community” for years to come, despite a recent revelation that it could be facing amalgamation.

Last month, the Larne Times reported that the North Eastern Education and Library Board had earmarked the school for potential merger with another school “on a site to be considered”. The school was deemed to be below the minimum enrolment threshold detailed in the Sustainable Schools Policy.

The NEELB made its proposal in its recent draft Area Plan, which outlines its plans for the future of primary level education provision.

But Governors have now drawn up and approved a three-year financial plan for the school, which they claim “shows that the financial resources of Glynn PS are being managed prudently and within the resources available”.

A statement from the school read: “Governors were delighted to note the progress being made with the extension and refurbishment works currently on site at Glynn PS. It is planned to move into the new school in mid August 2013. The residents of Glynn Village have been monitoring the rapid progress of the building so far and are also delighted to see this substantial investment in their school and community.

“It was agreed that the focus for the whole Glynn PS community must be on the future of the school and ensuring the continuation of the excellent education provided for the children of Glynn and the surrounding areas, as evidenced by the Education and Training Inspectorate Report of March 2012 which deemed it a ‘very good’ school overall, with several areas worthy of an ‘outstanding’ rating, including pastoral care and teaching.

“The Board of Governors also noted that the enrolment number in Glynn PS continues to rise each year, a situation which they foresee being maintained. An open evening for all to see the new school and get a flavour of the excellent education on offer will be held in the new school year.

“Governors are confident that Glynn PS will remain at the heart of this thriving, vibrant and growing community for many years to come.”
