Refurbishment of Crumlin Bridge

Translink is advising residents of essential engineering work to refurbish and strengthen the Crumlin Rail Bridge over the Crumlin River at Crumlin.

This work, which is due to start from November 28 is required to maintain safety and ensure the longevity of the structure. The project is due for completion Summer 2017.

The majority of the works will be undertaken during the day with periodic daytime lane closures will be utilised on Mill Road throughout the works. Occasional night time working will also be undertaken at track level where road rail engineering equipment will be used.

A spokesperson said: “We would ask local residents to remind young people in their care of the potential dangers of trespassing or playing on or near railway property or around engineering sites. The majority of the works undertaken will be repainting of the bridge. This entails encapsulation of sections of the bridge and grit blasting and localised abrasion to remove the existing paint before repainting. In addition, a number of rivets on this listed structure will be replaced to ensure the integrity of this structure.

“Blasting and painting works will be contained to minimise the environmental impacts of the works. As these works will generate some noise, however we will be making every effort to keep noise levels to a minimum. Local residents have been advised of the works and Translink would like to thank them for their patience. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask for your support while we work to improve our rail network. This work is being carried out by McLaughlin and Harvey who have set up a 24 hour helpline for residents.”
