Regal's demise is end of an era
LARNE'S art deco Regal cinema was demolished last week in what a heritage campaigner described as "just another act of cultural vandalism".
Bulldozers razed the distinctive pre-war building to the ground - news which saddened Ulster Architectural Society member John Anderson. He said he was not surprised, however.
"It is ironic that in a country whose politicians are so apparently obsessed with the preservation of cultural traditions and individuality that the physical representation of the individuality of Ulster towns and villages is so thoughtlessly trashed," said the former Larne councillor.
