Relief Society celebrates anniversary

IN 1988, a local branch of one of the oldest women’s organisations in the world celebrated its 146th birthday.

The Relief society was founded in 1842 in Illinois, in response to the hardships many people suffered due to physical difficulties that pioneer life entailed.

Worldwide membership totalled two million and in Lisburn there were 84 members, most of whom belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). All women were invited to participate.
