Relief that PMS savers are to get their money

LOCAL councillors have welcomed the news that savers of the PMS are now receiving their money.

DUP MLA for East Londonderry, Adrian McQuillan, said that savers had waited far too long but welcomed the fact that savers were now receiving their money, be it the full sum or a significant proportion of it.

Mr McQuillan said: “Many former savers of the PMS will be very much relieved as they receive in many cases all of their money, or a significant proportion of it.

“I welcome the fact that this is now happening. PMS Savers have waited far too long already to receive access to their money, many of whom have had to live on nothing since being refused access to their savings.

“Having worked for many savers of the PMS on the issue of getting them back their money, that they placed in the society in good faith, I am pleased that we are now seeing years of lobbying come to fruition. “

Alliance councillor Barney Fitzpatrick said it’s vital that all savers are fully reimbursed.

Cllr. Fitzpatrick said: “This is a positive development for savers but I hope that all savers including those with larger sums of money will get all their money back.

People have had to wait a long time for this and I am pleased that these cheques have now been sent out.

“The rescue package means that those who had less than £20,000 invested will receive all their money back but those with more will receive 85% and the other 15% is dependent on the disposal of PMS property and other assets.

“This has been a very difficult worried time for PMS savers and I believe that every effort must be made to ensure that all savers are fully reimbursed
