Relocation of speech and language class in Strabane

Education Minister, John O’Dowd, has approved a development proposal for the relocation of the Melmount Language Unit from its current location at Knockavoe School & Resource Centre.

“This proposal is in accordance with the provisions of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Order 1996 (SENDO), and I endorse the Board’s view that it is more appropriate for the speech and language provision currently provided by the Melmount Language Unit to be relocated to Sion Mills Primary School,” the Minister said, adding: “This relocation will not affect the specialist support offered but will enhance the opportunities for these pupils to interact with their peers.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the support and assistance that the Principal and staff of Knockavoe Speech and Resource Centre have offered to the Melmount Language Unit over the years.”
