Mr Swann is North Antrim UUP MLA and Constituency Chairman while Mr Wright is North Antrim UUP Secretary. Both are UUP candidates in May’s Stormont poll.

The two UUP men issued their joint challenge to the Executive following the series of bomb attacks on Brussels which claimed the lives of more than 30 people and injured dozens others.

Mr Swann and Mr Wright said: “We in the UUP are no strangers to the viciousness of a terror campaign.

“We unreservedly condemn the terrorist attacks in Brussels and we urge all constituents in North Antrim to rally behind the people of Belgium and remember the innocent victims of these attacks in their thoughts and prayers.

“We ask to remember the families of those killed as they come to terms with the loss of their loved ones, and to pray, too, for a speedy recovery of those injured in the blasts.

“We in North Antrim are no strangers to the effects of terrorism during the Troubles and since the Assembly into being in 1998. We ask the Stormont Executive to give whatever support it can to the Belgian authorities as the citizens of Belgium come to terms with the aftermath of this terrorist atrocity,” said Assemblyman Swann and Mr Wright.
